The Capitol Theatre was housed in the African Life Building in St. Andrews Street ,
Bloemfontein. It opened in the early 1950s and was a welcome addition to the city's
social scene. The auditorium walls were decorated with relief figures of traditional
'Voortrekker' women and the proscenium arch sported a bronze-coloured velvet festoon
curtain and gold satin screen tabs.The seating capacity was 1210 divided into a stalls
and circle section.
