The palatial Bijou Cinema was situated in Johannesburg's Jeppe street and was
opened on 30th July 1910

The Empire Palace of Varieties opened in Johannesburg in 1895 and was
situated at the corner of Commissioner and Ferreira streets. It was run by
Edgar Hyman where in May 1896 the first projected pictures were shown in
South Africa.
The historic Opera House in Pretoria opened in 1893 as a live
vaudeville theatre . With a seating capacity of 566, it was one of the
very few structures of its kind that survived into the 1960s, becoming
a cinema in the 1950s under the management of African
Consolidated Theatres. It was demolished in the early 1970s
